Cartmell Elementary back to school informationSchool day

The school day begins at 7:50 a.m. and ends at 2:40 p.m.

Transportation

If a child is being picked up at any time throughout the year, the family must have a family pick-up number.

To obtain the child’s family pick-up number, parents/family members must see the front desk receptionist before the first day of school. In order to obtain the family pick-up number, a legal guardian must have proper identification.

Parents/Guardians who are transporting children to school should drop them off between 7:20 — 7:50 a.m. in the in the car drop-off loop (not in the parking lot). Students eating breakfast at school are to report immediately to the cafeteria.

Please note that for the safety of the child, students may not ride a different bus than normal without a written note from their parents. A fax or an email may be sent to [email protected] no later than 2 p.m. each day.

The following information should be included in the note to the school:

• Name of child

• Address of delivery pick-up point

• Name of person at delivery/pick-up point

• Phone number of person at delivery/pick-up point

The parking lot on the US 42 side of our campus is for buses only. This will ensure the safety of children while buses are loading and unloading. Buses use this driveway throughout the school day.

Arrival

Cartmell has adult supervised drop-off from 7:20 — 7:50 a.m. Parents need to pull all the way through the drop-off loop. This is to ensure as many cars as possible get in the loop to reduce street congestion. Children need to exit the car on the right side, nearest the sidewalk. Parents should encourage children to open their door and not wait for an adult so that the car line can move smoothly and quickly. If a child arrives after 7:50 a.m., a parent/guardian must walk the child into the building.

Class begins promptly at 7:50 a.m. Students arriving after that time are considered late. Please be sure to bring the child to the front desk if he or she arrives after 7:50 a.m.

After signing in at the office, the student will be sent down to class with a late pass from the office. If parents would like to speak with the child’s teacher, they must contact the teacher to schedule an appointment. Parents who are not volunteering in the child’s classroom must exit the building by 7:50 a.m.

Dismissal

Parents must use the car pickup line when picking up their children at 2:40 p.m. In order to use the car pickup line, parents must have a pickup tag. Place the pickup tag in the car window. Someone will come by every day to cross check the number on the tag with the student’s name. The children will then be walked outside by a staff member.

For safety reasons, students will not be released to parents that come in the building until the front loop is clear.

Attendance

Children who miss school will fall behind their peers. Excused or unexcused absences matter. Please have children at school on time everyday.

If a child is sick, parents should call the school by 8:30 a.m. Anyday that a child is absent, a note should be sent to school the following day stating the reason for the absence. A maximum of five absences will be excused with a note from the parent. Additional absences will be excused only if the parent provides a doctor’s excuse, which should be attached to the parent’s own note. Other absences will be considered unexcused. After six unexcused absences, children will be considered truant.

Children are expected to remain at school throughout the school day, which ends at 2:40 p.m. Students who arrive late or leave early will be counted as tardy.

Student Records

Online registration through Infinite Campus must be completed for all children. Students will only be released to the adults listed as people allowed to pick them up in Infinite Campus. It is important that parents try to list anyone who might pick up the child from school. Parents must come to school whenever they need to make a change on this card.

The school must have all student records on file before school begins. This includes a copy of a birth certificate, a social security card, an immunization certificate, a physical record, a dental screening, and an eye examination report by an ophthalmologist. TB tests are no longer required for first-time enrollees. However, students who are transferring from a foreign country must have a TB test. If the documents listed above are not turned in, the child will not be allowed to attend school.

Visitors and Volunteers

All visitors must be sure to stop by the office, sign in and pick up a visitor’s badge. The receptionist will use the Raptor system and a driver’s license to verify identity and generate the badge. All visitors in the building must sign in and sign out when entering and exiting the building. All volunteers or field trip chaperones must have a background check. Please contact the board office for information regarding completing a background check.

Medication

Prescription or non-prescription (including Tylenol, cough drops, topical ointment, etc.) medication will not be administered unless a health care provider completes a permission form. In the event that a child requires a one-time dose, parents may come to the school and administer the medication.
